Mauritius Telecommunication Services was established in 1988, and became Mauritius Telecom in 1992, following its merger with Overseas Telecommunications Services (formerly Cable & Wireless). In anticipation of the impending liberalisation of the country’s telecommunications sector, the company formed a strategic partnership with France Telecom (now known as Orange S.A.) in 2000. As part of this partnership, France Telecom acquired a 40% stake in Mauritius Telecom.
